Company History

Harlan D. Hewlett, inventor, chemist and pioneer in diamond plating, began Hewlett Manufacturing more than forty years ago - a time when diamonds were reserved for national defense use. Harlan developed the first diamond wheel, developed the diamond plating process and evolved Hewlett Manufacturing, a family-owned American business, into the premier diamond knife sharpening company we are today.

As soon as high quality diamonds became available to all, we tooled and, for a decade, tested our unique sharpeners employing master chefs, butchers, and fishermen on three continents. Our business evolved until our diamond sharpeners for professionals completely dominated the world market. At the same time, we designed a product family for outdoors, workshop, and kitchen use.

We use American materials and all operations are performed in the USA. We are recognized as the originators and world leader in the art of diamond coating. Our six thousand square foot facility makes more diamond products than most industrialized countries.

Harlan passed his valuable knowledge and business savvy on to his sons; Brian and Lloyd. Both brothers now operate the business and have new products on the horizon. "Moving into the 21st century is exciting", says Brian, who is responsible for the research and development of the new products.
